What To Do In Rome, Italy Day Trip Itinerary

Ciao Ragazzi! Rome, the eternal city, is rich in history, culture, and delicious food. Just as Rome was not built in a day, exploring it all in one day is simply not enough time! However, here’s a one-day itinerary for a memorable day trip to Rome if you’d like to try:

Morning: 8:00 AM — Start your day with a traditional Italian breakfast at a local café. Enjoy a cappuccino and a cornetto (Italian croissant) to fuel your day.

9:00 AM — Colosseum and Roman Forum:

  • Begin your day at the iconic Colosseum. Explore the ancient amphitheater and imagine the gladiator battles that once took place there.
  • Walk over to the Roman Forum, the heart of ancient Rome, and marvel at the ruins of temples, basilicas, and arches.

Late Morning: 11:00 AM — Palatine Hill:

  • Climb Palatine Hill for panoramic views of the Roman Forum and Circus Maximus. The lush gardens on the hill offer a serene escape.

Lunch: 1:00 PM — Trastevere:

  • Cross the Tiber River and head to the Trastevere district for lunch. This area is known for its charming cobblestone streets and excellent trattorias serving authentic Roman cuisine.

Afternoon: 2:30 PM — Vatican City:

  • Visit the Vatican City, home to St. Peter’s Basilica and the Vatican Museums. Explore the awe-inspiring St. Peter’s Square and marvel at Michelangelo’s masterpiece, the Sistine Chapel.

4:30 PM — Castel Sant’Angelo:

Evening: 9:30 PM — Trevi Fountain:

  • End your day at the Trevi Fountain. Throw a coin over your shoulder into the fountain to ensure your return to Rome.
  • Enjoy the beautifully illuminated fountain in the evening ambiance.

10:30 PM — Conclude your day trip to Rome. You can return to your starting point or take a leisurely stroll through the city streets, soaking in the atmosphere of this timeless city.
